WORD OF THE MONTH: Words are the foundation of human communication and expression. They allow us to convey our thoughts, feelings, ideas, and experiences to others, creating a bridge between our inner world and the external reality. Every word carries its own unique power and nuance, shaping the way we perceive and interact with the world. Having a “Word of the Month” has been me a source of inspiration, sparked creative thinking, and promoted my love for language. This month’s word is “ephemeral”.

Ephemeral: (adjective) lasting for a very short time.

RECIPE OF THE MONTH: Emily’s Brussel Sprouts, Bacon, & Honeycrisp Apple Recipe

This section of the newsletter is dedicated to my Mom, who loves cooking our favorite Cajun recipes that were passed down to her from her Mom, my MawMaw. This month though I’ll be sharing one of my favorite recipes that I’ve been routinely making since 2020.

INGREDIENTS:

1 lb brussel sprouts

1 lb bacon

1 honeycrisp apple

INSTRUCTIONS:

Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees. Line baking sheet with aluminum foil. Cut brussels sprouts in half, place on backing sheet, drizzle with olive oil or avocado oil, then drizzle with pepper and garlic salt. Bake for 20 minutes.

While brussel sprouts are baking, cut bacon and apple into bitesize pieces. Once brussel sprouts have baked for 20 minutes, add apples, then bacon to pan. Bake for 10 minutes, stir, bake for additional 10 minutes. Continue to bake until bacon is crisp.
